Hey everyone. I wanted to share a great opportunity with you from my friends at Metal Mural. They are right now looking for submissions for a photo contest that they are running. They will be selecting images to display at all of the trade shows they will be showing at this year. Imagine your image printed on an eye popping piece for all of your colleagues to drool over!! And if that wasn’t enough they will be handing out prizes to the top images of each category. If you have never seen your work printed on metal I can tell you first hand that you will be ecstatic about the results, and metal mural is the best at what they do. But for the contest all you need to do is go to their site and submit your best image. There is nothing to lose, and who knows your work may be touring the country this year!!

Here is a link to the the contest. Good Luck! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Metal-Mural/183748298329104?v=app_254553244581393&rest=1

The team at Westcott has already started preparing for another great show this September. We are currently putting together some great looks and sets to make sure that there is something for everyone, and once again the shootout booth will be sure not to dissapoint.

This years themes are safely locked away in the vault, but they will be right up there with the amazing ideas from the past. Eric Eggly and I will be on the showroom floor once again to help, offer advice, and showcase the new flagship of Westcott’s continuous lighting systems the new Spiderlite TD6. If you have been to the shootout both in the past you know how cool this opportunity is, if not, imagine having a set built for you, pro models hired in for you, the best lighting equipment brought in, and all you have to do is play! Yep not kidding!

You are encouraged to bring your cameras, test the lights out and who knows, maybe even win some prizes!!!

Here are a few edits from my own shots from the past few years.

    Hit the Lodge

    Posted in: Projects

Supershoots is at it again! After taking a brief few minutes to catch some breath and get some editing in, I will be heading out to this years Hit the Lodge event to help out mentoring, working with photographers and models. If you are a photographer wanting to learn more about the art of shooting with models this is a great environment to do it. There are seasoned models there to help you, as well as a talented group of photographers to answer questions and offer pointers if you would like them. I have been to a few as a student and a teacher and I can tell you they are always a great time. This year it falls on June 18th through the 22nd. For more information check out www.supershoots.net. Tell JT that MJ sent you!

It was great meeting up with old friends and discovering new ones at the Photoshop World Expo in Orlando earlier this month. After leaving Orlando I was home for about 9 hours before leaving for my next job in Kansas City, and just now getting home so please pardon the delay. Once again the Westcott Shootout Booth was a huge success and drew a large crowd of photographers and general spectators every day of the event. For those of you unfamiliar with the shootout, it is a 4 stage set that we build full with props, models, and lighting setups so people can shoot and learn about lighting, and working with models. Once again we had several talented models, and the makeup artistry of Candace Corey to thank for the success. Several of the concepts proved to be a big hit including a fully dressed Samurai warrior, a Geisha, a pinup girl, an African warrior, Marie Antoinette, Harley Quinn, Rapunzel, Queen of Hearts, steampunk, and many more. As soon as I get some time to work some images up I’ll post them here, but I am sure you will find the net flooded with images from the event soon. For all of you that I got a chance to work with and talk to it was a pleasure, and I hope that I was able to help you whether it was understanding lighting and exposures, working with models, or any other bit of advice I could pass on. Anyone I met there feel free to send me a shout, I’d love to hear from you and even see some images from the booth.

    Happy Shooting!

I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as a mentor this weekend to the Supershoots group at Hit the Lodge XI! Supershoots was there at the beginning of my journey in photography,  and it seems only fitting that I get a chance to give back to the same group who had given to me. JT Smith; creator and photographer, has assembled a great team of artists, models, and instructors, and it will be great working alongside of them to share what I’ve learned through the years. The HTL workshop is the flagship of the events that he organizes and it is an excellent place for those wanting to learn, practice, network, and catch a few tips from the pros.

For more information on Hit the Lodge, or Supershoots check out www.supershoots.net and sign up. It’s free and it’s a great place to show your work, get critiques, and keep up with your photo friends.

I am officially en route to Orlando for Photoshop World. Thanks to my Miami layover I have a quick second to throw out a quick shout for the photoshop guys.

If you haven’t made it out to PSW yet, what are you waiting for. All of the lessons, new friends, knowledge, and Scott Kelby’s unmatched witt are waiting for you there. And then there’s also that “V” guy. If you are sitting back saying you can’t afford to go, let me tell you I was that guy once, and I now say I can’t afford not to go. The software from Abobe is getting better and better every year, and what better way to keep up with the pace than to learn alongside of friends, and from friends.

Hey also if you are going to be in Orlando and see me walking around the expo or hanging around at the Westcott booth stop by and say hello, over the past 3 years I’ve met many great friends at PS World and I always have room for more.

    See you there.

    Belief

“Belief. Makes things real…” –Gavin DeGraw

Wow. What a great lyric. Things in life seem “real” to us because we believe that they are. We hear words that people tell us and take the information they are conveying for truth, because we choose to believe them. We live our days out in a society that relies on the notion of belief. Belief in religion, belief in family, belief in friendship, belief in the good of all mankind, belief that life should be better, belief that this is all there is. Many times we inherit beliefs from others. Sometimes we develop them all on our own. Belief can be taught, or sometimes it is forced. But in the end, if you believe it, then for you, it is real.

Well here are a few more beliefs that I’d like to share with you. Belief in yourself. Belief that the path of your life is in your hands, chosen by you. That if you want something in this life, in your life, you have the power to bring it, if you believe. Belief that positive energy can actually change your life and the world around you. Belief that the attitude you emit to the world, is the same attitude and energy that will be returned to you.

Like many times, I was struck by this message once when I thought I was merely listening to a song. However messages and ideas make it through to you personally, I hope this one does for you.

    Belief.
